Rock, Roll, and Various Sundry Ingredients

Well, yesterday's Belle & Sebastian / New Pornographers show was even more amazing than anticipated. The New Pornographers rocked hard for a bunch of old dudes (and the Neko Case replacement, who did a phenomenal job at filling that unenviable position). Their stage presence was sort of static, but since they were note-perfect and played a heroic set of songs from all three records in their discography it was easily forgivable. There were also some good jokes about Canada and health care.

Belle & Sebastian owned the night. The Wiltern was absolutely packed with rabid fans, ready to do the bands bidding. It must have been like being Jesus. Anyway, I've always thought B & S superfans were sort of lame, but after the band's set last night, I myself am considering converting to their church. Hell, maybe I'll even get ordained. They were charming, dynamic, and musically impeccable. Top-notch all the way. I have some back catalog to work through.

I have to skedaddle back to class, now, I'm pushing the mid-class break a bit. I have to steel myself for a sleepless night--many days of not doing my Shakespeare work have caught up with me. At least this week is Missions Conference Week at Biola (also known as vacation time for the unrepentant).
